SchoolNet hosts Ubuntu Releases and Archive Mirror
SchoolNet is now hosting Ubuntu Releases and Archive Mirror. With this a long felt need of local Linux community has been addressed. Linux Users can now get updates or download new releases from these mirrors. The mirror is updated daily.

SchoolNet launches Moodle Network
In addition to the primary online Learning Management Server (LMS), LMS for each province has been setup and networking feature among these LMS has been activated. The objective of the provincial Moodle servers is to provide separate LMS space for schools in that province. All schools are encouraged to make use of this facility.
The primary site is at http://moodle.schoolnet.lk
This will contain the common educational resources and anyone can create an account and access resources here. All IT teachers are encourage to get familiar with the Moodle related course material available at this site.
However direct registration at provincial Moodle Server has been disabled and only those who have SchooNet email accounts can login.

SchoolNet now hosts a FTP server which contains many educational resources and the latest releases of Open Source software. Accessis available through both http and ftp.

Sri Lankan student wins 3rd place in Intel ISEF 2009
Chandula Padmasiri of Ananada College who won the first place at SLSEF has won the following award at the Grands Awards ceremony of Intel ISEF 2009 held recently in Nevada, USA. This is the 3rd place with a cash award of USD 1,000 for the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering category.
Grand ISEFEE 3 ENG: Electrical and Mechanical - Presented by Intel EE037 Padmasiri E. Chandula
This is a significant achievement considering the event is Sri Lanka's second appearance at Intel ISEF. This award was won out of 1,563 young scientists from 56 countries. Special thanks to Hon. Judges who selected the right candidates to represent Sri Lanka

Sinhala Support for SchoolNet Webmail is now available
Good News to those who have been looking forward to send email in Sinhala!!! After logging into SchoolNet Webmail go to Options -> Display Preferences. Select "Sinhala" as the Language and click "Submit". Use the language setting in your desktop PC to select Sinhala and start sending Email in Sinhala!!
Symantec Virus Update Server is now accessible within SchoolNet
One of the pressing issue within SchoolNet was the problems encountered in updating virus guards. As a first step in solving this issue, we have now setup a "Symantec Virus Update Server" within SchoolNet Network Operation Center.
Schools that are already using Symantec Norton Virus guards can download the setup file here . The file size is approx. 73MB and the file is accessible only within SchoolNet. Please download this after school hours as this download will occupy your link bandwidth fully!!. Detailed instructions on how to use the update server can be found here (Access restricted within SchoolNet).
